The New York Times, published March 04, 2019. By Perri Klass, M.D
This article discusses the importance of coming up with elaborate ways for Art Education to become more integrated into the lesson plans of other subjects. By bringing forth more creative/visual interactions and activities, students will become more engaged and encouraged to learn and retain the information. In doing so, they begin to develop more complex skills (overtime) that will aide them in their journey through life. Can this new way of creative instruction enhance the support that students need in the classroom (and at home) to improve their knowledge and understanding of new, multiple and a variety of subjects ?

I think creativity is the most important thing in art education, and I think it is most effective to interact using visual information as we are learning in class. This is because I think it is up to educators to make and feel themselves and to induce them to think about the next step. Your article helped me think about art education again. Thank you for introducing me a good article.

Yes, I think integrating art in different types of lesson plans will help because its fun and the students find the solutions to open ended questions. When I look back and think about the lessons that I learned in school that where taught in a creative manner its easier to focus and capture what you are learning. This was a good article to think back and wish more creative ways of learning were applied in school.

This is where art, science, English and math teachers can collaborate. It works well when you have a teacher willing to bend his/her curriculum work with you. My photo students collaborated with an 11th and 12th grade English class to design movie posters for short stories the students were writing. Then we printed the posters and they were Hollywood quality. Now the other disciplines can think of using art first.

I think it’s incredibly important for there to be continued support in art education. Incorporating the arts into lesson plans would be beneficial for those who struggle to retain information the “traditional” way. Allowing students to express themselves creatively and learn in a variety of different ways will reach the students who sometimes fall through the cracks. Interesting read!

What a great article, it really got me thinking! The arts played an important role in my education, although I didn’t realize it at the time. We definitely need to keep speaking up for the value of arts in learning, as the author is correct, that’s always the first area that that is targeted for cuts.

This is a great read! I honestly believe that everyone has a creative side to them, so I think integrating art into interdisciplinary curriculum is a great idea. I have always loved whenever I got the chance to use things I've learned in art classes in other classes. For example, one time I made a printable brochure in Adobe Illustrator for a group project instead of a PowerPoint presentation; my professor really enjoyed it! I think kids can benefit from this because I think they will be able to use their creativity and come up with ways to make their learning engaging and fulfilling for themselves.

I think arts integration is a great thing because it can introduce art concepts to kids that might not otherwise be familiar with art. I believe art education in general teaches vital skills that can be integrated in other subjects anyways: things like creative thinking, problem solving, and critical thinking. Thanks for being an arts advocate and sharing this!

Thank you for sharing this article. I believe the school systems should consider integrating more creative ways of learning. Combining important concepts of knowledge with creativity assignments/ projects will better assist in student learning. I think students will find themselves understanding the material better if they learn it in ways that’ll light up their personal problem-solving, critical thinking, creative, and social/communication skills. Kids are our future so we must try and makes the changes necessary for them to learn more properly and effectively.

Thank you for sharing this article. I think it was very helpful and can be used as a strong argument as to why we should have arts and art related teaching in schools. My daughter has an easier time grasping concepts when we study using visual and creative examples.

Great insight. As an artist myself the importance of being creative and expressing oneself through art is the most precious gift to nurture. When a child is growing up being able to fully lose themselves in any type of art or music or dance not only builds confidence but it let’s their souls be truly free.

Thanks for sharing the article. I believe it’s time to make a change in the way we educate our children. If learning becomes more fun and integrated with the arts, children would digest the informations better. Learning different curriculums in a creative manner would make students to feel more care-free and not under a lot of pressure that is “expected” of them.
